What to Look for in RV Insurance
Many times we are asked, "What type of Insurance do I need for my RV?" While that is a very general question here are some things you be aware of:
For any new or late model used RV we would recommend having full Comprehensive and Collision. This type of coverage is required by most banks if you are financing your RV. Some banks will allow a maximum of $1000.00 deductible. This type of insurance limits your out of pocket expense for repairs to the RV and/or other property damaged.
Guaranteed Total Loss Replacement: If you RV is destroyed in its first five model years, this coverage pays for a New RV of similar make and model no matter what the cost. From model year 6 on, it will pay the stated value listed on your policy.
Emergency Expenses: Reimburses expenses such as a hotel stay and rental car (for motor homes) if you have a comprehensive or collision loss more than 50 miles from home.
Personal Belongings: Replaces valuables such as clothing, dishes and other items used with you R.V.
24 Hour Roadside Assistance: Pays for unlimited expenses to get you RV to the nearest qualified repair facility.
Vacation / Premises Liability: Homeowner-like coverage that pays the bodily injury, first-aid or property damage for others injured in your campsite or RV.
Glass / Awning Coverage: For windshield damage along with wind damage to your awnings.
The overall cost of RV Insurance can be affected by many things, just like your auto insurance. Driving history, length of time owning an RV and credit scores are some of the things insurance companies will look at.
