World's Longest Yard Sale
Attention yard sale junkies! If your travel plans take you through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama in early August, you may want to check out the World's Longest Yard sale, otherwise know as the 127 Corridor Sale. Headquartered in Jamestown, Tennessee, the event stretches 654 miles from north of West Unity, Ohio to Gadsden, Alabama.
The sale which started in 1987 runs along Rt. 127 from near the Michigan/Ohio border south to Chattanooga, Tennessee, then switches to the Lookout Mountain Parkway, continuing to Gadsden. The four day sale always starts on the first Thursday in August making the dates for the 22nd annual sale August 6-9, 2009.
According to the event’s official website, www.127sale.com:
“The original intent of the sale was to prove the back roads have something to offer, and that the interstate system was not the only mode for travel. There are over three hundred attractions along the route to provide enjoyment for the family. Whether it be majestic hills, beautiful scenery, river boats, railroads, toe tapping music, arts, crafts, horses, fishing, hiking, bits of Civil War or Indian History, there are many opportunities to enjoy the beauty and culture of the land along the 127 Sale Route.”
Yard sale organizers recommend that large vehicles like motor homes or trailers are better off parked at a campground or parking area and a car or pickup truck be used as your means of transportation along the sale route.
Another note of interest is that HGTV's "Endless Yard Sale" will be back filming this year's special and they’re looking for fun, energetic shoppers to feature on the show. Complete details are on the website© 2009-2010 Media Camping Center
